"As the winter season in Peru approaches, it is more important than ever to offer support to the many families who find themselves without homes or shelter.  The floods which befell the people of Peru this year will leave countless thousands in dire danger.  Many will perish as a result of having their homes destroyed.  With no possibility of income and with such lack of funding and support it is up to every single member of the world society to help in any way they can to minimalize the loss of life that is tragically inevitable.  The work that On-Q is doing on the ground in Peru and through fund raising in America and via the internet is essential.  Qorianka works with a skeleton crew meaning there are no administrative overheads.  What you donate will find it's way to those in dire need of your help.  I fully support Qorainka in her endeavor to help those who are finding it more and more difficult to help themselves.  Please give all you can.  You would be shocked to find how much so little can do."   Colin Farrell

After all, its for a good cause !

Every year during Peru’s cold season hundreds of children freeze to death.

Only this year an estimated 80,000 people living high up in the Andes find themselves homeless after Peru’s recent floods….

Unless you read Peruvian newspapers online, you wont hear much about these tragedies...

Sadly, the two massive earthquakes in Haiti and Chile have left Peru’s humanitarian crisis  largely ignored by the international  media, making it hard to find aid and support for Peruvians in dire need of a helping hand.

So we hope you join us to celebrate for Peru while learning more about what is really happening in this beautiful country, and why Peru’s mountain people and communities living on the frontlines of Climate change so desperately need not only our help, but most of all our Voices! . Peru’s children freezing to death is not a yearly emergency, but something absolutely preventable… and together we can prevent the cold of indifference from creating yet another humanitarian crisis for Peru’s mountain people who face a fight for bitter survival in the winter approaching.

All it takes is for all of us to do our part and contribute to the global warming of hearts and a climate change in human consciousness!

 A couple words

Every year hundreds of children freeze to death in regions like Puno and Huancavelica and other remote indigenous communities. This year thousands of Perus Poorest of the Poor are now homeless, due to the recent floods.
And while helicopters were being sent to evacuating visitors from Machu Picchu, airlifting tourists to safety, the real tragedy was and still is unfolding on the ground where local People were left behind, abandoned by not only their Government, but also by the Media.

This year Peru’s mountain people face a fight for survival in the bitter winter approaching, while having lost homes, livestock, and crops in mudslides amd floods.

Experts point to climate change and the melting of glaciers as one of the reasons Peru’s weather patterns have changed for the worse…. Last winter the cold season started almost 3 months early claiming the lives of way to many.

In the past 3 years the climate in these regions has been  alternating between flooding and extreme cold and drought, killing Indigenous communities and their llamas and alpacas by starvation, and destroying their houses and crops, while the constant freezing temperatures and malnutrition is killing small children by the hundreds... some of them litteraly freezing to death!

Take just one report from just one region… Puno, to the Southeast, its quit disturbing: The rains left "more than 22 thousand farmers affected, 23 million acres of crops worthless, and 25 thousand dead livestock, including cattle, llamas and vicunas."

And there are many, many regions, which are affected.

For most families living 10000 – 14000 feet above sea level, it has always been a struggle against the elements and the cold, many times living in little more than a collection of small thatched shelters, and surrounded by herds of alpaca, beautiful, yet bleakly inhospitable, mountain terrain and thin air.

In places like Huancavelica, climate change will bring on freezing temperatures even more this winter, and due to the recent floods, some of Peru’s poorest communities where families have long existed on the margins of survival will have to face some of the most devastating consequences of climate change.

Many families will have to choose whether to save their animals that give them all their substance of survival and living, or their children. And sadly many times their is such chaos to keep the animals alive that sustain the families from dying that the children are often neglected until it is to late. The cold is tipping a spiraling decline, brought on by pneumonia, bronchitis and hunger.

Sadly, Perus Government seems to only begin to even pay attention once the numbers killed by the freezing cold become internationaly alarming.... and so, year after year, the deaths of hundreds of children are declared as an emergency, trather than something completely preventable.

Indigenous farmers living at heights of up to 5,000m, subsisting below the poverty line, are sadly not a priority to perus state government...  in fact Perus President Garcia has publicly, on television referred to his countries Indigenous Peoples as 3rd. class citizen, savages and people who stand in the way of progress....

This attitude is of great concern to us at on-Q initiative, and as the cold of winter is rappidly approaching again, it is clear to us that, with thousands and thousands of people having lost all they have in the floods, it is up to all of us to ensure that the cold of indifference will not claim the lives of perus mountain children once again.
